I just liked this sign...
It seems to be the mantra of September and back to school...
Back in the day, {get it, I'm cool} going back to school meant new shoes and some clothes. Most kids choose what they like to wear. I always had another criterion... choose what my sister hated. That way there was more of a chance when I got up in the morning it would still be hanging in my closet and not running out the door on her back.
Now going back to school means: first stop... supplies list. What a scene... we seem to drop about one hundred dollars on pens, paper, note books and calculators... That is all before the wardrobe. I really can't complain because my daughter wears a uniform to high school.
I asked her jokingly the night before day one of school, "So, what are you wearing your first day?"
She replied, "I think I will wear that great plaid skirt I got last year... My big decision is whether to wear white or blue knee socks... And I think I will tie it all together with that stylish white shirt with the collar and buttons."
Uniforms are freedom. So much better than middle school where the criterion was... cover all body parts. Don't get me wrong, there is still lots of room to get a very creative attitude with a uniform dress code. It is amazing how clothes can be rolled, tucked and layered... When did bras become wardrobe accessories?.. I remember the embarrassment when my strap showed and they were always white! Now they are neon and everyone seems to think they look great under white shirts.
And va-va-va-voom boobaledge. Everyone has cleavage and shows it now. Now shopping for bras is way more complicated than just support. It is really about enhancement? I really used to like Victoria's Secret more when they kept it a secret.
Well, I'm old and you can hear it, can't you?
So, how does that sign speak to you as a parent?
No rest for the weary!... Keep on truckin' and Keep on laughin' because the alternative sucks...
They need us on our toes!
Ciao,
Anne
